Ford Returns To Profitability For The Third Quarter

Some rare good news for the auto industry: Ford has reported a pre-tax operating profit of USD 1.1 billion and a net profit of USD 997 million for the latest quarter, while Ford North America made a pre-tax operating profit of USD 357 million, the first quarterly profit since the first quarter of 2005.
Ford attributes the better numbers to improved profit margins, a strong product lineup and higher sales in the North America, South America and Europe regions. Even so, Ford is still USD 1.3 billion in the red for the year, reflecting the severe downturn experienced in the first half of 2009.
However, Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally expects the Blue Oval to return to full profit by 2011. “Our solid product lineup is leading the way in all markets. While we still face a challenging road ahead, our One Ford transformation plan is working and our underlying business continues to grow stronger”, he said.
