Toyota Prius Wins Prestigious Japan Car Of The Year Award

In a sure sign of our go-“green” times, Toyota Prius has won the prestigious Japan Car of the Year award, edging out fellow hybrid Honda Insight. Japan has always been on the forefront of producing environmentally-friendly cars, and the trend is clear from the list of winners: Honda Fit won in 2007, Toyota iQ won in 2008, both of which are compact, clean and efficient cars. The emergence of two hybrids as forerunners for 2009's award is therefore unsurprising.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, this award is given to the car receiving the most votes from more than 60 judges. Winners of other categories include Mitsubishi i-MiEV for having the Most Advanced Technology; Subaru Legacy for providing the Best Value; Nissan Fairlady Z for being the Most Fun; and Volkswagen Golf as the Import Car of the Year.
