Tokyo 2009: Honda CR-Z—A Sportier Honda Insight
sponsored links
This is Honda's CR-Z concept, an iteration of the original concept car that debuted two years ago. This two-door hybrid coupe is meant to be a sportier alternative to the much-criticised Honda Insight. Despite the “concept car” billing, CR-Z is essentially the production car that will roll out in Japan in February 2010, before a full-scale introduction across U.S and Europe in the last quarter.
Designed to be “low, short, and wide”, CR-Z looks sporty and athletic, changing little from the original. The roof appears taller and the windscreen more upright than before—most likely measures to improve headroom and practicality.
Powered by a hybrid system, consisting of a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and Honda's IMA system, CR-Z will be the first hybrid to offer a six-speed manual transmission.
No official figures regarding the power output, fuel economy or pricing are released for now. We will probably have to wait till closer to the launch or next year's Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) for more details. Meanwhile, browse through our gallery!
