Ford Malaysia To Launch Six All-New Models By End 2013; Ranger & Focus Among Them
Ford Malaysia has announced the upcoming launch of six all-new models in Malaysia by the end of 2013. Two confirmed models are the Ranger, which has so far amassed more than 600 bookings, and the Focus, though the other four are a secret for now. The six models will be offered with eight new powertrains, including a range of EcoBoost and turbodiesel engine units.
For 2012, Ford will open five new showrooms under Malaysia distributor Sime Darby AutoConnexion, adding to the existing 42 showrooms. According to Hal Feder, Director of Ford's Export & Growth (E&G) division, Malaysia is now considered one of Ford's most important markets in ASEAN, which is of course part of Asia, the region projected to account for 70 percent of Ford's growth over the next decade.
Indeed, Ford Malaysia's sales in 2011 was nothing short of exceptional, seeing a 145 percent year-on-year increase to 7,188 Ford vehicles, the most since 1997. The main driver of growth was the Fiesta with 4,297 units sold in its first full year of sale. The runner-up in the sales chart was the due-for-replacement Ranger with 2,274 units, more than 17 percent higher than in 2010, and the Focus in distant third with 263 units, an increase of 58 percent.
