Perodua's New Transmission Plant To Begin Construction Soon; Official Start In Nov 2013
Perodua's new Electronic Automatic Transmission (E-AT) plant, the first of its kind in the ASEAN region, will begin construction in mid-march. The S&P agreement for the sale of 113,000 square metres of industrial land, 13,000 square metres of which will be occupied by the plant, has just been signed between Akashi Kikai Industry (M) Sdn Bhd and Negeri Sembilan's Menteri Besar Incorporated and developer BSS Development Sdn Bhd. Akashi Kikai Industry (M) Sdn Bhd is majority owned by Japan's Akashi-Kikai Industry Co Ltd with 51 percent, followed by Daihatsu with 39 percent and Perodua with 10 percent.
Located in the Sendayan Tech Valley in Seremban, the plant will produce automatic transmission units designated for use in the Perodua Myvi and Perodua Alza. Upon completion, which is expected by the end of 2012, the plant will go through pilot operation for around one year before the official start of operation in November 2013 with an estimated 120 workers. The production capacity of the plant is projected at 150,000 units annually; a chunk of that figure will be for export markets which Perodua has earmarked under its five-year strategic roadmap.
