Honda Thailand To Resume Car Assembly At Flood-Affected Plants By End Of March

Honda Thailand has promised to resume operations at its plants in Ayutthaya—the province hard hit by the Thai floods last year—after a six-month production hiatus. Honda says plans are in place to restart car assembly by the end of March, with two working shifts a day across its plants which have a combined production capacity of 240,000 vehicles annually. Delivery of the assembled cars, and the production of parts for export to other Honda plants in the ASEAN region, should begin in April.
To clear the current order backlog of 5,700 Jazz and 1,200 Accord units, Honda Thailand has decided to import 4,000 Jazz and 2,000 Accord units from Japan, upon receiving permission from the Thai government to import cars duty-free. Delivery of the imported units will start in April, too. However, the bulk of the 40,000 orders are for the City and BRIO, both of which remain in short supply because Thailand is the global production hub for both models. Those eyeing the upcoming Honda Jazz Hybrid can rest assured, as it is produced in Japan, so supply should be aplenty.
