Porsche Considers New Entry-Level Model

It seems Porsche is now keen to offer an entry-level model below Porsche Boxster after all. While talking to German magazine Automobilwoche, Porsche Development Head Wolfgang Duerheimer confirmed that developing the new model is now a top priority. Although he did not let known any further details, speculations are unrelenting that the Volkswagen BlueSport concept, a two-door roadster introduced at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, would likely underpin the new Porsche.
Why has the German sports car maker only started considering a new model, when it appears the obvious thing to do all along? Perhaps that is down to annual sales that have plunged 24 percent for the fiscal year ended July 31. Moreover, being a Volkswagen subsidiary company, Porsche would have access to Volkswagen’s vast array of parts and components, which would significantly lower the overall development costs.
