Detroit Auto Show: 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe To Follow Infiniti G37 Into Malaysia?

The 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. While it may never reach Malaysian shores, Hyundai's first rear-wheel-drive sports coupe is noteworthy because Hyundai is a force to be reckoned with nowadays, and so any new models deserve some mention, just like the courtesy we extend to Toyota and Honda models. And that remains true for the Genesis Coupe, even if it is only a mid-life revision.
In addition to the usual exterior facelift bits and interior touch-ups, the Genesis Coupe also receives a recalibrated suspension and a faster, more feelsome steering system to better challenge rival sports cars like the Infiniti G37 Coupe, which incidentally has been introduced in Malaysia not too long ago. Even so, with the Hyundai Veloster confirmed as coming to Malaysia, the chances of the Genesis Coupe heading here is next to zero.
More significant upgrades are a new eight-speed automatic transmission and big power bumps: the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine gains a more precise twin-scroll turbocharger and larger intercooler to produce 274 HP and 373 Nm; and the 3.8-litre V6 engine is now fuel direct-injected to churn out 348 HP and 400 Nm, which translate into a 0-100 km/h dash time in the low five-second range according to Hyundai.
