Detroit Auto Show: Lexus LF-LC Hybrid Previews More Than Just Design Direction?

The quite stunning Lexus LF-LC Hybrid Sports Coupe Concept has made its world premiere at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, pushing the L-Finesse design language one step further and showcasing the future design direction for Lexus. The creation of Lexus' Calty design studio in California, the LF-LC sports an aggressive styling that represents the latest iteration of a design revolution that began on the CT and GS, with elements of the LFA supercar obviously thrown into the mix as well.
Lexus' latest 2+2 coupe concept features a prominent “waterfall” front grille, indulgently-styled headlamps, taillights inspired by the afterburner of a jet fighter, a one-piece glass roof serving as both the windscreen and rear screen, as well as a sumptuous, high-tech interior wrapped in leather and suede and decorated with brushed metal trim and wood.
There are scarce official technical details from Lexus, despite the wealth of information on the styling. For now, we know that the LF-LC comes with an engine mounted up front, while Advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive powers the rear wheels. If reports are to be believed, however, this Lexus previews a model likely to enter production in 2015, positioned between the IS coupe and the LFA supercar, giving Lexus a successor to the discontinued SC coupe and a natural rival to the Mercedes-Benz SL and BMW 6-Series.
