Hyundai Hexa Space Concept ‘Revolutionises’ Interior Packaging

Hyundai was not going to miss out on the massive pie that is India, and has unveiled to the world the Hexa Space Concept at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Answering urban family needs in emerging markets such as India, the MPV concept “revolutionises” the use of interior space, Hyundai claims, through eight hexagonally-shaped slim seats that can be arranged in multiple ways to maximize utility.
The futuristic-looking eight-seater cabin has seats in a 3+3+2 layout. To free up shoulder room, the centre seat in the first two rows is positioned slightly behind the other two seats on either side. Moreover, all seats can be folded flat, allowing for a multitude of seating configurations. Convenient access to the cabin is taken care of by rear doors that extend out and slide backwards.
The efficient use of space means that the Hexa Space is relatively narrow for an MPV at 1820 mm wide, improving the car's maneuverability through crowded urban streets typical in emerging countries. Other dimensions include a length of 4300 mm, a wheelbase of 2750 mm and a height of 1647 mm. The relatively small-size Hexa Space can therefore share a FWD platform with the compact Hyundai ix20 and draw power from a small 1.2-litre turbo GDI Kappa engine, which is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.
