The 2012 Proton Exora facelift has been officially launched, with two new turbocharged variants joining the Exora range, which now consists of the 1.6 Standard manual at RM 59,998, the Bold 1.6 Executive manual at RM 70,998, the Bold 1.6 Executive automatic at RM 74,998, the Bold 1.6 Premium CVT at RM 79,998, and the Prime 1.6 Premium CVT at RM 88,998; the tentative prices are on-the-road with insurance.
Offering comparable performance to a 2.0-litre engine, Proton is keen to point out, the new Campro CFE (Charged Fuel Efficiency) engine in the two range-topping variants is paired exclusively to a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). The addition of a turbocharger to the 1.6-litre Campro engine squeezes out 138 hp at 5000 rpm and 205 Nm from 2000 rpm to 4000 rpm.
Proton claims that the turbocharged Exora takes 13.3 seconds for the century sprint, before hitting a top speed of 185 km/h. The official fuel economy is stated as a very decent 12.8 km/litre. Comparatively, powered by the non-turbo Campro CPS with 125 hp at 6500 rpm and 150 Nm at 4500 rpm, the Exora manual and the Exora automatic complete the 0-100 km/h dash in 12.9 and 15.5 seconds respectively, with a top speed of 165 km/h.
The entire Proton Exora range has been facelifted with a new grille and revised front/rear bumpers, though 16" alloys, smoked head- and tail-lamps and rear garnish finishing are reserved for the Exora Bold Premium, which also gets rear disc brakes, front fog lamps, a rear spoiler, electric folding side mirrors, dual-tone leather seats, leather-wrapped steering, cruise control and a reverse camera monitored via a LCD within the rear-view mirror.
The most expensive Exora Prime Premium is visually differentiated by 16" gold-finished alloys and a new Absolute Brown colour. The cabin, instead of seven seats, has six seats with a centre row lined by two Captain Seats. Exclusive to this trim is a walnut dashboard finish and extra equipment—namely head-rest monitors and GPS navigation—on top of what's offered on the Exora Bold Premium.
The Exora Bold Premium is available for viewing and test drive at all Proton Edar showrooms nationwide. The Exora Prime Premium, on the other hand, will not be available for test drive and can only be viewed at selected Crystal Showrooms in Juru (Penang), Plentong (Johor) and Mutiara Damansara (Petaling Jaya). With this latest update and two new variants, Proton hopes to boost the average monthly sales by 200 units to 2000 units. Enjoy the 2012 Proton Exora facelift official gallery below!
