2012 Nissan GT-R Track-Focused Version To Arrive Next Year

The Nissan GT-R may already be one of the fastest cars around, but Nissan engineers—inundated with requests from buyers for that extra something on the track—have now announced the 2012 Nissan GT-R Track Pack, a track-focused version of the Japanese beast that remains road legal. Only right-hand-drive markets like Britain and Japan will get this GT-R from March 2012, so it could pop up in Malaysia through parallel importers after that date.
Visually, the most hardcore version of the GT-R yet rides on lightweight six-spoke RAYS alloy wheels, which are made more distinctive thanks to a gloss-black paint finish. The cabin is equipped with grippy Recaro sports seats, and the complete removal of the rear seats and the Track Pack emblem mounted in the centre console remind the driver that this is no ordinary GT-R.
Hitting 100 km/h from rest in just 2.7 seconds, the GT-R Track Pack's credentials do not come from extra power—the 3.8-litre turbocharged V6 engine still generates 550 horses—but through improved dynamics. To improve on-track performance, the brake discs draw extra air from additional cooling ducts built into the front bumper. Similar ducts, located out of sight behind the rear wheels, direct air to cool down the rear discs. In the suspension department, the spring rates have been track-optimised, including being readjusted to compensate for the weight of the driver and steering column.
