Hyundai i40 Estate Set To Arrive In Malaysia In 2012

Surprise, surprise: the Hyundai i40 estate—a car tailored for Europe—is coming to Malaysia next year, though it will be without its natural rivals like the Ford Mondeo or Mazda 6 estates. Thanks to Hyundai's distinctive Fluidic Sculpture design language, the i40 estate is the sexiest estate in the market by a distance. Moreover, the interior is claimed to offer quality benchmarked against the Volkswagen Passat's.
Launched in Europe in the middle of 2011, the Hyundai i40 estate will be joined by the i40 sedan next year. Over there, three engines—a 1.7-litre turbodiesel in two states of tune (116 HP and 136 HP), as well as 1.6-litre (141 HP) and 2.0-litre (177 HP) direct-injected petrol units—are paired to either a six-speed automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual gearbox.
Due to our lacklustre Euro 2M diesel grade, which would not be upgraded to Euro 4 until 2014, the 1.7-litre turbodiesel is not likely to arrive here. Again down to our petrol quality which also does not meet proper standards, we may miss out on the new direct-injected petrol engines, having to settle for the less efficient, non-direct-injected 165 HP, 198 Nm 2.0-litre and 178 HP, 228 Nm 2.4-litre Theta petrol units currently used on the Hyundai Sonata YF.
