Tokyo Motor Show: 2012 Isuzu D-Max—Finally An All-New Model

Less glamorous than debutantes like the 2012 Toyota GT 86 and concepts such as the Subaru Advanced Tourer is the 2012 all-new Isuzu D-Max, a model perhaps boasting the most number of facelifts and variants in its lifetime. Developed in collaboration with General Motors, the D-Max shares its body-on-frame underpinnings and design with the Chevrolet Colorado, which will be launched in Malaysia in December 2011.
Built in Rayong, Thailand, alongside the Colorado, the Isuzu D-Max is available in single- and double-cab body styles, powered by a selection of three turbodiesel engines: a 2.5-litre with 115 HP and 280 Nm, a 2.5-litre with 136 HP and 320 Nm, and a 3.0-litre with 177 HP and 380 Nm; the last two have their outputs boosted by variable-geometry turbochargers (VGTs). The drivetrain further consists of five-speed automatic and five-speed manual gearboxes and a choice between front- and all-wheel-drive configurations.
