This is the Mazda Takeri Concept which previews the next-generation Mazda 6 sedan, a car heading for launch by the end of 2012. The Takeri wears the latest iteration of the “Kodo-Soul of Motion” design theme, which has so far featured on the Shinari and Minagi concept cars and the production-ready Mazda CX-5 SUV. It all points to an all-new 6 that should have the sleek looks to match its likely class-leading dynamics, though the futuristic concept-style interior is unlikely to make production in its exact form.
Mazda's “Sky Activ Technology”—encompassing a lighter yet stiffer modular steel platform, new suspension systems, compact, lightweight automatic/manual transmissions, and a range of highly efficient petrol and diesel engines—will be on full showcase on the Takeri as well as the CX-5, the first production Mazda to benefit from the entire array of those technologies. The upcoming 6 will be the second Mazda to receive the Sky Activ treatment.
Mazda's new regenerative braking system, yet another piece of Sky Activ technology, will debut on the Takeri, which will be making its global premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show this December. Also awaiting introduction is the new Sky Activ-D diesel engine, equipped with engine automatic start-stop and the aforementioned regenerative brakes.
The 2.2-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, rated at 173 PS and 420 Nm, features a lightweight, low-friction design for added smoothness, and a compression ratio that is the lowest of all current production diesel engines', contributing to a 20 percent improvement in efficiency over that for a conventional diesel unit.
