Frankfurt Motor Show: 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class
sponsored links
This is Mercedes-Benz's next-generation B-Class, which has been re-engineered for more interior space, better handling, improved efficiency and enhanced safety from the ground up. The first to be based on Mercedes' MFA FWD platform, the all-new B-class is longer, wider and lower than the current model. Even so, Mercedes promises uncompromised headroom and rear legroom that rivals the S-Class'. The boot capacity also goes up by 121 litres to 666 litres.
The lowered centre of gravity, along with the new four-link rear suspension and the upgraded ESP, improves handling. Moreover, the B-Class is equipped as standard with Collision Prevention Assist, a radar-based collision warning system that automatically applies the required brake pressure to avoid an imminent collision.
Four engines are available at launch in 2012: 1.6-litre petrol units with 122 hp and 200 Nm or 156 hp and 250 Nm; and 1.8-litre diesel units with 109 hp and 250 Nm or 136 hp and 300 Nm. All engines feature turbocharging, direct fuel injection and an auto stop/start system. A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a six-speed manual shifter are options.
