Frankfurt Motor Show: 2012 Mazda CX-5
sponsored links
Meet the 2012 all-new Mazda CX-5, an SUV aimed squarely at the likes of the Honda CR-V and Kia Sportage. Staying true to the Minagi Concept unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the CX-5 is the first model to feature Mazda's “Kodo—Soul of Motion” design philosophy, one that apparently pays attention to aerodynamics with the car's drag coefficient at just 0.33.
The CX-5 will also be the first production Mazda to be powered by the automaker's latest SkyActiv technologies, which cover everything from the chassis and body design to the engine and transmission efficiency. Engines announced for the European market include a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 165 hp and 210 Nm, as well as a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine with either 150 hp and 380 Nm or 175 hp and 420 Nm.
Europe will get the CX-5 in early 2012. There is a good chance of the CX-5 reaching local shores months later too, considering how well-received these compact SUVs are in Malaysia. Given that the quality of our diesel is not likely to be upgraded by next year, expect to see only the 2.0-litre petrol unit.
