Frankfurt Motor Show: Peugeot HX1 Concept

This is the Peugeot HX1 Concept, the French automaker's vision for a 2020 MPV which showcases Peugeot's future plans in the areas of aerodynamics, architecture, modularity, cabin materials and powertrain efficiency. Styled by Gilles Vidal, the stunning six-seater MPV concept follows a “Metamorphosis” (Greek word for transformation) theme, which basically means that the HX1 adapts to driving conditions with active aerodynamics and occupants' needs with a flexible, modular 4+2 seating arrangement.
The ultra-sleek exterior is designed with aerodynamics in mind, resulting in a drag coefficient of just 0.28. Moreover, the high-tech alloy wheels' seven spokes open up to form a flat surface on the move, while two side skirts and a rear spoiler installed at the top of the tailgate deploy at speeds above 100 km/h.
The four radical half-scissor doors open upwards and outwards to improve access to the cabin, which features leather, brushed metal, natural oak and even marble. A total of six occupants can be seated in three rows of seats, and the centre row can be removed for added flexibility. A mini-bar and a coffee machine are available at the rear of the HX1, even though both are not likely to make production.
The HX1 is powered by Peugeot's diesel-electric HYbrid4 powertrain: a 204 hp 2.2-litre HDi diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox drives the front wheels; and a 95 hp electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery pack with plug-in capability drives the rear wheels. Effectively a four-wheel-drive car, the HX1 has a combined output of 299 hp, a fuel economy of 31.3 km/litre, and carbon emissions of only 83 grams/km. The electric-only range can be sustained for 30 km at low speeds.
