Frankfurt Motor Show: Mercedes-Benz F125! Concept
sponsored links
Unlike other automakers that look one model generation ahead, coming up with hybrid and electric vehicles as a result, Mercedes-Benz sees way into the future and becomes convinced that for large luxury sedans like the S-Class to remain relevant, hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains will need to be commonplace by 2050. As a homage to its 125th anniversary, Mercedes created the F125! Concept, the German automaker's future version of an S-Class.
Constructed from a mixture of aluminium, high-strength steel, carbon fibre and fibre-reinforced plastics, the F125! Concept is motivated by an advanced fuel-cell system that uses hydrogen to generate electricity, which in turn drives four electric motors and consequently the four wheels. Mercedes predicts greater performance than that derived from the most powerful S-Class variant today—all the while producing zero carbon emissions.
