Land Rover has unveiled two new concepts previewing the all-new Land Rover Defender which is due in 2015. The DC100 and DC100 Sport showcase the future direction of the Defender, Land Rover's icon now at 63 years old. Both based on a lightweight, mixed alloy platform, the DC100 represents Land Rover's capability and versatility, while the DC100 Sport demonstrates the brand's image and design flexibility.
The DC100 and DC100 Sport have the same three-plus-three seating arrangement like the Land Rover models of old. The cabin is trimmed with Ultrafabric and Superfabric, two new premium yet durable materials. Sustainable and recyclable materials are also used in the seat foam and sound insulation, among other areas.
Notable equipment includes the next-generation Terrain Response System upgraded to include a camera, the new Wade Aid feature which uses sonar to gauge water depth, and the new Terrain-i which detects major obstacles while off-roading. Much less likely to enter production are the cabin's induction charging station, and the metallic silver finish that reflects sun rays to keep cabin temperatures low. The DC100 even comes with solar panels on its roof.
