2011 Volkswagen Jetta Launched In Malaysia

The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI has arrived for RM 149,888, closely priced to the Golf Mk6 with which it shares a chassis. Unlike the previous Jetta—effectively a Golf with a boot tacked on—the all-new Jetta should be considered a standalone model, Volkswagen insists, as it no longer looks like the Golf and many of its underlying parts and components are different from the Golf's.
Perhaps one of the best representation of Volkswagen's “Das Auto” or “The Car”, the Jetta is based on a stretched version of the chassis borrowed from the Golf, and features MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the back, instead of the less sophisticated torsion beam used on the U.S. Jetta. A speed-sensitive electro-mechanical power steering comes standard.
To further differentiate the sedan and hatchback mechanical siblings, the Volkswagen Jetta not only has a unique dash design, but has grown in size to become the longest sedan in the C-segment, with a body that is 94 mm longer than before, 71 mm of which goes to lengthening the wheelbase, which in turn translates into an extra 67 mm of rear legroom. The boot capacity is generous as well, offering up 510 litres.
Volkswagen Group Malaysia points out that the Jetta has the most powerful engine in the C-segment, drawing upon a 1.4-litre twin-charged TSI engine with 160 PS at 5800 rpm and 240 Nm across 1500–4500 rpm. Equipped with a seven-speed DSG gearbox, the Jetta takes 8.3 seconds for the 0-100 km/h sprint, before topping out at 221 km/h. More impressive is the claimed official fuel economy of 16.7 km/litre and carbon emissions rated at 139 grams/km—excellent figures for a car of the Jetta's size, weight and power.
The fully-imported Volkswagen Jetta does not come wrapped in leather upholstery (except on the multi-functional steering wheel and hand-brake lever), but at least has a two-zone climate control, cruise control, USB/iPod/Aux mobile device interface, and rain sensor. The five-star Euro-NCAP-rated safety equipment is where your money goes to, comprising six airbags, braking controls (ABS, EBD, brake assist), traction and stability controls (TCS, EDL, ESP), anti-whiplash front headrests and ISOFIX mounts.
