2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI Launched In Malaysia

Volkswagen Group Malaysia has launched the 2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI in both three-door and five-door forms. The three-door Polo GTI sells for RM 132,888, and the five-door Polo GTI for RM 135,888 (prices exclude insurance but include a five-year unlimited mileage warranty and a five-year roadside assistance package). The fully-imported (from Germany) Polo GTI is in its fifth generation, now packing more power, more pace and better fuel efficiency than the previous 2010 Volkswagen Polo GTI.

Borrowed from the Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Scirocco 1.4 TSI variants, the 1.4-litre direct-injected, twin-charged TSI engine has been tuned to produce 20 horses more at 180 hp at 6200 rpm and 250 Nm between 2000–4500 rpm. Equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission complete with a manual mode and paddle shifters, the 2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI sprints to 100 km/h from rest in 6.9 seconds, before eventually hitting 229 km/h. The engine churns out 30 horses more than the 1.8-litre engine on the previous Polo GTI, and yet consumes 24 percent less fuel at a very frugal 17.0 km/litre.

Available in six different colours (Candy White, Flash Red and Black solid colours; Reflex Silver and Shadow Blue metallic colours; and Deep Black colour with a pearl effect), the 2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI is decorated with trademark GTI red lines across the honey-combed grille, GTI badges, double chromed exhaust pipes, red-painted brake calipers, and 17" Detroit alloy wheels.

The cabin is offered with sports seats with the distinctive GTI-only tartan design, aluminium pedals, as well as red stitching on the leather flat-bottomed steering wheel, seats, gear shift lever and hand brake lever. Other notable equipment includes bi-xenon headlamps with cornering lights, LED daytime running lights, panoramic tilt/slide sunroof and cruise control.

The steering system is of the electro-hydraulic type, and the all-round disc brakes are ventilated at the front. The suspension setup consists of front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam. Keeping you safe are four airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front active headrests, ABS, EBD, EBA, traction control, stability control, hill-hold control, and an electronic differential lock aimed at reducing understeer through corners.
