2011 Volvo S80 T5 Variants Launched In Malaysia

Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the 2011 Volvo S80 in two variants, the T5 Powershift costing RM 268,000 and the T5 Exclusive Powershift costing RM 295,000. The two new variants, both powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, replace the RM 295,000 S80 2.5T that draws power from a 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine.

Despite having one less cylinder, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine—the same EcoBoost engine used in the Ford Mondeo but with a higher state of tune—churns out 240 hp at 5500 rpm and 320 Nm between 1800–5000 rpm, powering the S80 from rest to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds before hitting 230 km/h. Paired to the six-speed Powershift dual-clutch transmission as standard, the engine returns an impressive 12.1 km/litre.

The 2010 Volvo S80 2.5T had 231 hp at 4800 rpm and 340 Nm between 1700–4800 rpm, channeling the power via a six-speed automatic transmission with Geartronic. The century sprint took 7.5 seconds, and the maximum speed stood at 210 km/h. Fuel economy was stated as 10.4 km/litre. Ford's front-wheel-drive EUCD platform has been equipped with a new Dynamic Chassis setup, which, Volvo claims, offers better control and less body roll.

Externally, the 2011 Volvo S80 does without a facelift. The S80 T5 wears 16" Oden alloy wheels, and the S80 T5 Exclusive dons 17" Cassini-design alloy wheels. The S80 T5's cabin features grey leather upholstery, with the “silk metal trim” decorating the leather steering wheel and gear shifter. The S80 T5 Exclusive uses a combination of grey and beige leather, along with wood for the steering wheel and gear shifter. The Exclusive variant also comes with a six-disc in-dash CD-changer, Bluetooth connectivity and two rear headset sockets, while the base S80 variant makes do with an eight-speaker audio system.

The multitude of Volvo safety systems standard on both S80 T5 variants includes front/side/curtain airbags, braking controls [ABS, EBD, EBA plus RAB (Ready Alert Brake) and FBS (Fading Brake Support)], Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS).

Reserved for the S80 T5 Exclusive are more advanced features such as the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Driver Alert Control (DAC), Active Bending Lights (ABL), rain sensor, front/rear Park Assist, Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection.
