Sime Darby Motors Sets Out Targets For 2011

Sime Darby Motors, the automotive division of Sime Darby Bhd, has set a target of selling more than 60,000 units for the latest financial year which ends on June 30, 2011, compared with 57,000 units a year before. And it is one the company is confident of reaching based on the 35,000 vehicles sold locally and overseas in the first-half of the financial year.
With a presence in eight countries across Asia-Pacific, Sime Darby Motors is involved in the assembly, distribution and retailing of as many as 32 brands, ranging from premium brands like Porsche, BMW and Alfa Romeo to mass market brands such as Hyundai, Ford and Mazda. Predictably, China is the largest and most important market, contributing 32 percent of the company's revenue.
Sime Darby Motors also intends to ramp up production at its local assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah, which is operated by Inokom Corp Sdn Bhd. The plant's current annual output of 30,000 units makes up 80 percent of its total capacity, leaving 20 percent for new assembly deals that the company is negotiating with several undisclosed automakers.
