The 2012 all-new Kia Rio sedan has been revealed at the New York Auto Show, following the unveiling of the Kia Rio hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Longer and wider than the current Rio sedan, the upcoming Rio sedan crucially offers a wheelbase lengthened by 70 mm, resulting in more interior head- and leg-room both front and rear.
What really stands out with the all-new Rio is its striking design, one penned by Peter Schreyer, Kia's Chief Design Officer who brought us attractive new Kia models like the Picanto, Optima and Sportage. The cabin design looks considerably more upmarket than before as well.
Based on an all-new front-wheel-drive platform that employs MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam at the back, the Rio sedan is powered by a class-leading 138-hp 1.6-litre direct-injected four-cylinder petrol engine, equipped with engine stop-start technology, for the U.S. market (more engines are offered internationally). A six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmissions are options. Enjoy the 2012 Kia Rio sedan live photo gallery below!
