Volvo Car Malaysia hopes to almost double its sales to 1500 vehicle units by end 2012 from the 800 units sold in 2010. The official distributor for the Volvo brand in Malaysia believes that the all-new Volvo S60, launched locally for RM 288,000 (2.0 T5) and RM 348,000 (3.0 T6 AWD) last week, could contribute up to 50 percent of that targeted sales volume, with the other 50 percent to be fulfilled by existing models and new ones to arrive these two years.
Goran Larsson, President of Volvo Car Malaysia, reaffirms the company's long-held practice of local assembling high-volume models at its Malaysian plant, which is responsible for producing 6000 vehicle units annually for the rest of the ASEAN market, in order for Malaysian consumers to enjoy lower prices.
“When it comes to sales, it is all about the numbers game and our ambition is to make a comeback and gain market share like we used to”, Larsson said. “With the volume, we can bring along a competitive pricing. The larger-engine variants would be CBU (completely built up) units, while the other variants coming in at the turn of next year would be CKD (completely knocked down) units”.
