After the many rumours, speculations and buzz, Land Rover has finally confirmed the news: the well-received LRX Concept which debuted at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show is heading for production and will be joining the Range Rover model line-up in 2011. Described as the “smallest, lightest and most efficient” Range Rover to be built, the new SUV will stay true to the concept, featuring many familiar Range Rover styling cues without losing what made the concept so popular.
Land Rover has yet to confirm whether the name stays or goes, or where it will be positioned, except that it will be “a natural extension to the Range Rover line-up, complementing the existing models and helping to define a new segment”. There is no word on the drivetrain or chassis, but previous reports suggest that Land Rover Freelander's chassis will underpin the new SUV. With a Range Rover badge on the front, the upcoming car is likely to be expensive, so start saving now.
