Geneva Motor Show: 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

The 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 has been launched at the Geneva Motor Show, officially taking over duties from the Lamborghini Murcielago which has served for nine years. With deliveries set to start in the third quarter 2011, the Aventador fuses styling cues from the Reventon and Sesto Elemento, looking about as dramatic as road cars can be, complete with a pair of scissor doors.
At the core of this 1575 kg Lamborghini is a carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) monocoque structure that weighs a mere 147.5 kg. Power is generated by an all-new 6.5-litre V12 with 700 hp at 8200 rpm and 690 Nm at 5500 rpm. With the Haldex all-wheel-drive system and seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) transmission which requires 50 millisecond to change gears, the Aventador takes 2.9 seconds to sprint from rest to 100 km/h, eventually hitting 350 km/h.
Co-developed by Lamborghini and Graziano Trasmissioni Group, the all-new single-clutch, robotised manual transmission is a work of art all by itself, as it is lighter (just 70 kg) and faster-shifting than a conventional double-clutch transmission, while being more compact than a traditional manual gearbox. Two automatic modes are offered alongside the three manual modes: the comfort-oriented Strada, the aggressive Sport and the bone-jarring Corsa.
