Geneva Motor Show: 2012 All-New Kia Rio

The 2012 all-new Kia Rio has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, before the start of sales later in 2011. A model designed by Peter Schreyer, the Rio wears the new Kia corporate face and styling elements in line with the next-generation Kia Picanto.

Compared with the current Rio, the new Rio five-door hatchback, now accompanied by a three-door hatchback which will go on sale early 2012, is 20 mm longer, 25 mm wider and 15 mm lower. More importantly, the wheelbase is 70 mm longer at 2570 mm, providing more cabin room and cargo space.

The engine lineup consists of two petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol units include an 85 hp, 118 Nm 1.25-litre and a 109 hp, 136 Nm 1.4-litre, while the diesel units comprise an 82 hp, 94 Nm 1.1-litre and a 90 hp, 216 Nm 1.4-litre. Five/six-speed manual gearboxes and a four-speed automatic gearbox are available.
