2011 Proton R3 Satria Neo Officially Launched In Malaysia

The Proton R3 Satria Neo has been officially launched at RM 79,797 (OTR inclusive of insurance), after Proton started collecting bookings for the limited-edition R3-designed sports hatchback in early February. R3 (Race, Rally, Research), Proton's in-house motorsports division, not only spiced up the exterior and interior, but also tweaked the suspension and boosted the power output for a complete package.

Distinctive on the outside with the Fire Red body colour and black-painted roof, the R3 Satria Neo also wears a CPS bodykit comprising a front lip which improves down-force; titanium-coloured side strips; and an R3-designed rear roof spoiler. The ride height is lowered by 10 mm for a more solid stance and better handling.

To that end, the special-edition Satria Neo comes with R3-designed performance springs aimed at reducing body roll; alignment, toe and camber settings recalibrated for better grip and improved steering precision; high performance brake pads to deal with consistent heavy braking; and 16" gunmetal lightweight alloys fitted with Bridgestone Potenza RE001R 205/45 series profile tyres.

Complementing the exterior is the matte red and black cabin, which features matte red accents on the dashboard trim, gear console and handbrake handle. The R3-designed front bucket seats are wrapped in Nappa leather and adorned with carbon-effect PVC and red stitching. New equipment includes an engine start button, aluminium foot pedals and gear knob, R3-labelled floor carpets, Ecotint solar film, and a 2-DIN audio head unit with 3D GPS navigation.

Paired to a close-ratio five-speed manual gearbox is the venerable 1.6-litre S4PH Campro CPS engine, boosted by Stage 2 performance upgrades that increase the output from the original 125 hp and 150 Nm to 145 hp and 168 Nm. Proton claims that the century sprint can be accomplished in 9.2 seconds, before the top speed of 205 km/h is reached.

The R3 Satria Neo is now available for viewing at the Proton Edar-owned Proton Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam, and the three Platinum showrooms in Mutiara Damansara, Juru and Plentong. For a fee of RM 2K, booking can be made at any of Proton Edar's 23 sales branches, while the delivery time is expected at around one month.
