The 2012 Hyundai i40 has been revealed, ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week. The first car to emerge from Hyundai's new “modern premium” philosophy, which aims to offer premium quality at an affordable price, the D-segment i40 is benchmarked against Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo, but is expected to be priced closer to Mazda6 in Europe, the only continent to get the i40.
The i40 estate will arrive in European showrooms in July, with a four-door sedan equivalent to follow before 2012. The exterior is clearly inspired by Hyundai's i-flow concept, featuring many styling cues borrowed from the firm's fluidic sculpture design language. The interior is said to offer quality comparable to an Audi's.
Along with a generous equipment list, the i40 will be launched with a 138 bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine and a 113 bhp/134 bhp 1.7-litre turbodiesel unit. The engine lineup will be boosted by 2.0-litre petrol and diesel units later down the road.
