Audi has begun car assembly operations in collaboration with INDOMOBIL/Garuda Mataram Motor in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, a car market where premium segment car sales are expected to double in the coming five years.
Audi has set a target of assembling around 2700 units of the A4 1.8 TFSI and A6 2.0 TFSI models by 2015, with the base A4 variant accounting for 2000 units. The first batch of locally-assembled units has been delivered to Indonesian customers earlier this month.
This latest announcement follows similar assembly arrangements in the key Asian markets of China and India. DRB-Hicom, which owns the Audi distributorship in Malaysia via Euromobil, had stated its intention to locally-assemble selected Audi models in Malaysia once annual sales hit 1000 units—a target it expected to reach in 2012.
