2011 Hyundai Getz at a glance
The 2011 Hyundai Getz is as unexciting to look at as it is to drive. But beyond that, the rest of the package is compelling. The Hyundai Getz would have a bigger market share if not for the capable local opposition—the Perodua Myvi.

Styling
The exterior styling is compact and neat. It is neither likely to offend nor excite anyone. Inside, the simple dash design echoes the neatness of the outside. Potential buyers will be looking beyond the styling when considering the 2011 Hyundai Getz.
Handling
The 2011 Hyundai Getz handles reasonably well, and should be able enough for the sensible Getz owner who places more emphasis on comfort than driving fun. The 2011 Hyundai Getz leans and rolls considerably due to the soft suspension, although it does grip on relatively well. Drive too keenly and the modest cornering limits will quickly surface. Importantly, the handling stays predictable and safe throughout.
Comfort
Over rough surfaces, the soft comfort-tuned suspension comes to the rescue, soaking up bumps and delivering a comfortable ride. Wind and road noise are fairly well kept-out, but the engine sounds noisy when cruising at higher speeds. The driving position should be fine for most, although more steering wheel adjustments would be appreciated. The dashboard, though dull-looking, has controls which are clear to look at and simple to use.
Quality + Reliability
By class standards, the overall build quality is solid, with good fit-and-finish, but too many materials feel and look cheap. Similar small-size cars have moved the standards on and Hyundai will have to improve on the quality to compete effectively. Hyundai, while not known so much for quality, has their reputation built on reliability (and lower pricing), thus the Hyundai Getz's mechanicals should be durable.
Performance
The 1.4-litre DOHC is the only engine option, matched with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. With 95 bhp and 125 Nm, any overtaking moves will require some planning, but for most city driving scenarios, the 1.4-litre is adequate given the 2011 Hyundai Getz's light weight. However, work the engine too hard, and the resulting engine noise will eventually nag you off the throttle.
Roominess
The amount of space in the 2011 Hyundai Getz is commendable. It would be leading the class, or at least be up there with the best, if not for the new crop of extra large small-size cars. Front and rear occupants will enjoy ample head- and leg-room for four people. Three passengers at the back will be a squeeze though. Boot size is similarly spacious, with a good shape for optimum luggage carrying. The rear seats can be folded forward for more loading space when needed.
Running Costs
Running costs are average. Fuel economy is decent for a car its size. Servicing and repairs should be affordable, and the reliable mechanics should lower maintenance cost in the long run. Depreciation, on the other hand, could be more of a concern. The Hyundai badge helps little in preserving value, although the brand reputation is steadily improving.
Value for Money
The Chevrolet Aveo, Kia Rio and Naza 206 Bestari are all comparable rivals to the Hyundai Getz. But what makes the 2011 Hyundai Getz stand out is its attractive pricing, which undercuts the mentioned three. Only the capable, and of course lower-priced, Perodua Myvi is preventing the 2011 Hyundai Getz from gaining a bigger market share. The Myvi's dominance in the Malaysian small-car segment is easily observable—where do you not see a Myvi?
Equipment
Equipment level is reasonable at this price range. Air-conditioner, electric windows, central locking, power steering and CD-player come as standard. Safety features include twin SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).
Environment
Carbon dioxide emission levels at 141/159 g/km, for the manual and automatic transmissions respectively, are healthy numbers, but mainly because the engine capacity is small to start with. Bring the decent fuel economy into the equation and the 2011 Hyundai Getz becomes one of the 'greener' cars roaming our roads.
