2010 Naza 206 Bestari at a glance
Credit to Naza for giving Malaysians a taste of a continental Peugeot at a reasonable price. The 2010 Naza 206 Bestari, a rebadged Peugeot 206, still looks good and drives well. But the tight cabin and lack of refinement could be a deal-breaker for some.

Styling
Designed by Peugeot and untouched by Naza (except for Naza badges at the front, rear and on the wheels), the 2010 Naza 206 Bestari is deemed good-looking enough to be left in its original form. Compact, well-proportioned and chic, the 2010 Naza 206 Bestari still looks fine despite its age.
Handling
After serving for so many years, the chassis is inevitably showing its age, and lacking the sophistication of the best in this class. That said, drive the 2010 Naza 206 Bestari down a winding road, and the combination of well-weighted, accurate steering and competent chassis can still entertain somewhat. It must be said, though, that rivals have moved the game on in terms of mechanical grip levels and other driving dynamics.
Comfort
The ride quality is good over Malaysian roads, but refinement is poor as engine and road noise make their way into the cabin. The seats are comfy enough, but the seating and steering adjustments are inadequate for us to find a comfortable driving position, meaning long trips will be tedious. The dashboard looks old-fashioned, and cabin ergonomics certainly have room for improvement.
Quality + Reliability
Build quality fares better than the choice of dashboard materials. Cabin items feel solidly put together, but the dashboard materials are unappealing when compared with those found in the latest European cars. The 2010 Naza 206 Bestari's outdated dash design does little to lift the interior ambience. That said, the tough materials, solid construction and proven mechanics should remain reliable.
Performance
Under the bonnet lies a SOHC 8-valve 1.4-litre petrol engine with 74 bhp at 5500 rpm and 120 Nm at 2800 rpm. Either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic gearbox is available; the latter is a Porsche Tiptronic System that has adaptive and sequential controls. On the roads, the engine provides reasonable urge for everyday driving, but feels breathless for anything more enthusiastic.
Roominess
Unlike many of its compact rivals such as the Perodua Myvi, the 2010 Naza 206 Bestari has a tight cabin. The front driver and passenger get decent room, but rear legroom is poor by class standards and three at the back will be a real squeeze. The boot is also small, but at least the rear seating bench folds flat to free up more space.
Running Costs
Naza offers only the 1.4-litre engine because of its good fuel economy. We expect servicing and repairs to be reasonably priced, but depreciation could be the biggest running cost of all; the Naza/Peugeot brand, hatchback body and superior competition point to weak resale values for the Naza 206 Bestari.
Value for Money
The 2010 Naza 206 Bestari is well-priced against the Hyundai Getz, Kia Rio and Suzuki Swift. Naza has, in effect, rebadged a wonderfully engineered Peugeot, giving Malaysians a taste of continental cars at a substantially-lowered price. As popular and capable as it was in the past, the Naza 206 Bestari is feeling its age, and we cannot help but think that there are better value deals out there, such as the slightly more expensive Suzuki Swift and the much cheaper Perodua Myvi.
Equipment
The manual variant gets 14-inch steel wheels, auto switch-off headlamps, front fog lamps, manual air-conditioning, power windows, remote central locking, keyless entry, electric-adjustable mirrors, rear sports spoiler, radio and CD-changer with 2 speakers. Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). The automatic variant adds 14-inch alloy wheels and EBC (Emergency Brake Assist). The Sportivo variant adds a full body kit, twin exhaust tailpipes, new head- and rear-lamps design, red/black interior theme and Recaro buckets seats.
Environment
The 2010 Naza 206 Bestari's fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions are better than for many cars, but only by virtue of the small engine capacity. Modern rivals, European or Japanese, are getting more efficient because they are forced to adhere to stricter environmental regulations back home.
Live Life Drive Verdict

Aging but still competent chassis
Low price for a rebadged Peugeot
