Styling

Certainly one of the best-looking large MPVs out there. The well-proportioned Mitsubishi Grandis wears an angular styling which takes attention away from its substantial mass. The interior styling is neat and uncluttered.

Handling

Driving the 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis turns out to be highly unsatisfying, even by MPV standards. The steering feels vague and over-assisted, while the low grip levels and considerable body roll suggest corners should be approached with caution.

Comfort

The suspension deals with most road imperfections well, but bigger bumps can jolt the ride. The 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis cruises quietly, keeping road, wind and engine noise out of the cabin. The cabin is comfortable and spacious, providing a high seating position and ample seating adjustments, but the steering column is only tilt-adjustable. The controls, located neatly on the uncluttered dashboard, are easy to use. Front visibility is good, but the poor rear visibility makes reversing hard.

Quality + Reliability

The cabin construction seems durable and solid. While the fit-and-finish are comparable to rivals', some cabin materials used fall short of the best in the class. Mitsubishi has an outstanding reputation for mechanical reliability, and the 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis should remain reliable for years to come.

Performance

The 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis is powered by a 2.4-litre in-line-four SOHC MIVEC engine. The engine produces 162 bhp at 6000 rpm and 217 Nm at 4000 rpm, giving the Mitsubishi Grandis reasonable urge on the roads. Push the engine too hard, though, and you will be greeted by a strained engine note and alarming fuel consumption. A dated four-speed automatic gearbox is standard.

Roominess

The 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis can seat up to seven. Front two rows have plenty of room, but the third row has merely adequate head- and leg-room. Access to the third row can also be difficult. Middle row comes with 60:40 split-fold seats, while third row seats can be folded or stowed away individually. The middle and third row seats can thus be arranged in a number of ways depending on the need.

Running Costs

Fuel consumption is quite demanding at 10.7 km/litre. Servicing costs should be reasonable. But the Mitsubishi Grandis's depreciation is likely to be significant, especially when compared against the likes of the Honda Odyssey, which holds its value in class-leading fashion.

Value for Money

The 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis is asking for money that can get you the Honda Stream and Toyota Wish. The Mitsubishi Grandis is comfortable to spend time in, solidly constructed, roomy and versatile, and well-equipped. Sure, the handling is uninspired, running costs are high, and we will prefer more airbags and one more gear ratio. But overall, the 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis offers good value for the money.

Equipment

The 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis is well-equipped, having as standard front fog lamps, 17" alloy wheels, door mirrors with built-in turn signals, keyless entry, central door locking, power windows, fully automatic air-conditioner with manually controlled rear cooler, 6-speaker system, and 1-Din DVD/MP3/WMA player with 8" LCD monitor. Safety kit includes security alarm with electronic immobiliser, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), brake-assist, and dual front SRS airbags.

Environment

223 grams/km of carbon dioxide emissions and 10.7 km/litre of fuel consumption are not figures that environmentalists take kindly to. But the 2010 Mitsubishi Grandis can carry seven on board, which at least mitigate the pollution caused per person.
