2010 Lexus RX at a glance
With the classy good looks, a quality cabin, supple ride and exceptional refinement, the 2010 Lexus RX offers luxury unmatched by rivals. But surely the ubiquitous Toyota Harrier has robbed some of the Lexus RX's lustre?

Styling
Lexus basically sharpened up the previous-generation RX's looks, removing the rounded ends to arrive at this new handsome RX. The cabin architecture is also carried over, but once again done so with exquisite enhancements. Overall, the 2010 Lexus RX looks classy, inside and outside, and well-proportioned.
Handling
The 2010 Lexus RX handles ably for a tall SUV, but is some distance behind the BMW X3 and BMW X5 in terms of agility. Through corners, the 2010 Lexus RX remains predictable and composed, but the vague steering and fair amount of body roll will dissuade most from pushing too hard.
Comfort
The 2010 Lexus RX offers a high seating position with excellent visibility, eight-way seating adjustments and tilt/telescopic steering column. All controls are easy to read and use. Coupled with the comfortable, spacious cabin to make the 2010 Lexus RX a fine long-distance cruiser are the supple ride and exceptional cabin noise insulation.
Quality + Reliability
The dashboard design and switchgear are starting to feel its age, but the materials used and fit-and-finish are of the typical high Lexus standard. According to recent JD Power customer satisfaction surveys, Lexus has ranked at the top over the years, meaning the solid cabin assembly and durable mechanics are unlikely to give owners any problems.
Performance
The 3.5-litre V6 engine, with 272 bhp and 342 Nm, proves more than adequately quick for city overtaking or highway cruising. In true Lexus fashion, the V6 engine delivers power silky-smoothly through the five-speed automatic transmission.
Roominess
There are five seats with good head- and leg-room in the 2010 Lexus RX, and rear seats can fold for additional loading space if the already large boot space is insufficient. The German class-leaders have more interior room and the option for seven seats, however.
Running Costs
The fuel economy is reasonable by V6-engined SUV standards, returning 8.9 km/litre. Servicing and repairs will be costly, but the same applies for luxury rivals. As the Lexus brand has stood for reliability and quality, a case made stronger due to association with the Toyota brand, we expect competitive residual values for the Lexus RX.
Value for Money
The 2010 Lexus RX seems expensive against mid-size luxury SUV rivals like the BMW X3, Land Rover Freelander 2, Mazda CX9 and Nissan Murano. But compared to full-size luxury SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and BMW X5, the 2010 Lexus RX appears to be a steal.
Equipment
The 2010 Lexus RX comes well-equipped as standard with auto-leveling headlamps, panoramic sunroof, wood grain and leather finishing, cruise control, dual zone air-conditioning, CD changer and Mark Levinson 11-speaker audio system. Safety kit includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL), and seven SRS airbags.
Environment
Carbon dioxide emissions of 264 grams/km and fuel consumption of 8.9 km/litre are not environment-friendly figures by any measures. “Green” people should stay away from the 2010 Lexus RX and any other heavy, thirsty SUVs for that matter.
