2010 Isuzu D-Max Single Cab at a glance
Tough, reliable, frugal and practical, the 2010 Isuzu D-Max Single Cab is essentially a commercial vehicle with little image to speak of. So unless you need the loading space, this is a truck you should stay away from.

Styling
Big, tough, muscular, rugged are all appropriate words to describe the 2010 Isuzu D-Max Single Cab. Even in double-cab form, the Isuzu D-Max is already the most utilitarian-looking compared to other trucks in Malaysia; removing the two doors just shouts commercial vehicle. The cabin is similarly no-nonsense, focusing on usability than style.
Handling
No surprise, truck-type handling means modest grip and plenty of body lean. Twisty roads should therefore be approached with minimal enthusiasm. Around urban areas, the 2010 Isuzu D-Max's steering needs a lot of turning but is light enough, which together with the good all-round visibility, allow for easier-than-expected parking and maneuvering. Still, the 2010 Isuzu D-Max Single Cab is clearly designed and built for areas off the tarmac.
Comfort
The ride is overly bouncy to say the least, and of course, our undulated roads and highways only serve to highlight that shortcoming. The diesel engine is vocal, but becomes quieter at a constant cruising speed; wind noise is not a problem but road noise is at 110 km/h. The steering column only adjusts for height, but there are seat-height adjustments. Cabin ergonomics are fine, as all controls are well-placed and easy to operate.
Quality + Reliability
The Isuzu D-Max is positioned as the toughest of all trucks, and the cabin quality certainly attests to that. Hard but durable plastics and solid fixtures give the cabin a built-to-last feel. The underlying mechanicals are specifically designed for hard use, and should serve their purpose with little problems.
Performance
A 134 bhp 3.0-litre turbodiesel is offered with a five-speed manual gearbox. While the 3.0-litre may not be able to match rivals for power, it is smooth and punchy throughout the rev range. Maximum torque available from a low rpm is useful for load carrying or towing, too. The 2.5-litre engines in the Ford Ranger and Nissan Navara are however more refined and powerful.
Roominess
The front row has decent head- and leg-room for three. The lack of a second row of seats means an extremely generous cargo bay, which makes the 2010 Isuzu D-Max Single Cab a prime candidate for commercial usage.
Running Costs
The Isuzu D-Max Double Cab is widely known as the most frugal truck, and the D-Max Single Cab should be no different. Servicing and repairs should also be affordable. Thanks to the Isuzu D-Max's reputation for dependability, depreciation should be well-contained too, giving owners above-average residual values.
Value for Money
Tough, reliable, frugal and practical, the 2010 Isuzu D-Max Single Cab makes for a no-nonsense truck that is not unlike most commercial vehicles. Unless you need the loading space, this is a truck you should stay away from.
Equipment
The 2010 Isuzu D-Max Single Cab comes with 15" steel wheels, air-conditioning, rubber mats, PVC seats, Limited Slip Differential (LSD), and Touch-on-the-Fly one-button switching between two- and four-wheel drive at speeds up to 100 km/h.
Environment
The 2010 Isuzu D-Max is the most frugal as well as cleanest among trucks. Having said that, the carbon dioxide emissions are still some way higher than amounts produced by most sedans and hatchbacks, which are the kind of vehicles any genuine environmentalists should stick to driving.
