Styling
The Toyota Camry now looks contemporary, far better than its boringly squarish predecessor. Larger than before in every dimension, except the height, the Toyota Camry is well-proportioned without looking clumsy like before. The front end, with the broad chrome grille and rectangular headlamps, is especially handsome. The rear end has also emerged much leaner and purposeful than before. With the decisive, bold design elements, the 2011 Toyota Camry could be the best-looking version ever.
Handling
Handling is much improved over its wallowy predecessor. Although not sporty by any means, the Toyota Camry is now more nimble and resists body roll better. The steering is now weightier, while brakes also feel stronger than before. The all-round improvements add up to give the Toyota Camry a sharper, though not entirely entertaining, drive.
Comfort
Using soft, comfort-tuned suspension, the ride stays supple and comfortable over most surfaces. Refinement is similarly impressive, with well-contained wind and road noise at higher speeds. The perfect driving position can be achieved through the reach-and-height steering column adjustments and seat-height adjustments. The modern dashboard comes with clearly marked controls that are neatly and thoughtfully laid out. Seats are supportive and cosseting, too.
Quality + Reliability
Without surprise, the 2011 Toyota Camry's cabin quality is up there with the best in the class. Build quality is almost immaculate, with the fit-and-finish completed to Toyota's usual high standards. From the wood trim to soft plastics, the cabin materials are chosen as much for their high quality as for the way the different colours and textures seem to blend seamlessly together. The Toyota badge alone guarantees reliability, and if the previous Camry is any gauge, Camry owners can expect trouble-free mechanicals.
Performance
Two in-line four cylinder engines are available: a 2.0-litre, with 145 bhp and 190 Nm; and a 2.4-litre, with 165 bhp and 224 Nm. Both engines are tweaked for increased power outputs, while only the 2.4-litre gets a five-speed sequential automatic transmission. On the roads, the 2.0-litre can feel underpowered at times, even if the power delivery, via a dated four-speed automatic transmission, is smooth and refined. The 2.4-litre with the new gearbox does not feel much faster than before, but should lower engine noise and improve fuel economy thanks to the extra gear ratio.
Roominess
The 2011 Toyota Camry can carry five in comfort, providing generous headroom and even more legroom than before with its increased wheelbase. Plenty of useful storage compartments can be found in the cabin. The boot is wide and deep, and although the rear seats do not 60:40 split-fold, there is a through-loading function for longer items.
Running Costs
Toyota Camry owners get to enjoy the lowest running costs by class standards, and that can be attributed to the 2011 Toyota Camry's excellent fuel economy, the reasonable servicing and repair costs, and of course the rock-solid resale values achievable only with a Toyota badge.
Value for Money
Toyota builds practical cars for sensible people—a fact that is more than apparent from its model range. Roomy, comfortable and well-built, the 2011 Toyota Camry is a large sedan for the masses that ticks all the right boxes. The 2011 Toyota Camry may look better than it drives, but it has all along been about providing comfort on the way from point A to B. In short, there is little doubt that Toyota has yet another best-seller on their hands.
Equipment
2.0E comes with leather steering wheel with audio and air-conditioning controls, dual zone automatic climatic control with Plasmacluster, MP3/WMA/CD/radio player, 6 speakers, power windows, electric wing mirrors, fog lamps, parking sensors and 16-inch alloy wheels. Safety equipments include ABS, EBD, BA, and dual front airbags. 2.0G adds electric front seats and leather seats. 2.4V further adds cruise control, 6-CD in-dash changer, 17-inch alloy wheels and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC).
Environment
Japanese automakers are responsible for producing the “greenest” cars in the market. And Toyota is definitely at the forefront. Excellent fuel economy and low carbon dioxide emissions mean the 2011 Toyota Camry is one of the most environmentally sound large sedan in Malaysia.
