Styling

Going through Ferrari's history books, you will find a number of legendary supercars that can lay claim to being the most beautiful Ferrari; the 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is however, in our books, not one of them. Still, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano sports a classic long bonnet, dramatic lines and a sleek silhouette—all elements pointing to what this supercar is capable of. The 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is also more striking and sleeker than its predecessor, the Ferrari 575M Maranello.

Handling

Not a small car by any means, and not mid-engined, the 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano however handles exceptionally all the same. Benefitting from the electronic stability and traction control systems, and electromagnetic shock absorbers which have trickled down from Ferrari's F1 exploits, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano's chassis deals civily with the power on tap. In fact, the 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is much easier to drive fast than many other supercars. Ultra-sharp changes in direction, endless grip, a flat cornering stance, coupled with a precise steering are the order of the day.

Comfort

The clever electromagnetic shock absorbers provide for a surprisingly comfortable ride. The ride is firm, of course, but for a supercar, the ride quality is commendable. And so is the refinement at speed, as wind and road noise are well-contained. Quiet while cruising, the V12 comes alive with a rousing soundtrack when pushed. Unlike uncomfortable supercars of old, the electrically adjustable seats, good ergonomics, and excellent visibility make for a great driving environment.

Quality + Reliability

The new crop of supercars now add superb cabin quality to their repertoire. The first-rate fit-and-finish, and the finest-quality materials suggest Ferrari is as capable as any luxury automakers in constructing classy cabins. Ferrari's reliability has also improved tremendously over the years, and there is every reason to believe that the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano will remain reliable under hard use.

Performance

The 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano comes with the 6.0-litre V12 engine which is also used in Enzo. What that means is 612 bhp at 7600 rpm and 607 Nm at 5600 rpm. Can not comprehend the numbers? How about a 0-100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds, or a top speed of 330 km/h. The strong performance starts below 2000 rpm and progresses linearly until 8400 rpm. The 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano remains extremely drivable in traffic and on highways, too. A six-speed paddle-shift gearbox that can change gears in 0.1 second is standard.

Roominess

The 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is a roomy two-seater coupe: the driver and passenger enjoy plenty of head, shoulder and legroom; the 320-litre boot is well-sized by supercar standards; and additional compartments are available in the cabin for smaller items.

Running Costs

Running costs are huge (for non-Ferrari owners, that is), starting from the abysmal fuel economy of 4.7 km/litre. To maintain peak performance, servicing will be regular and expensive. The desirable Ferrari brand, and the long wait for a new Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano will help mitigate depreciation, but mileage and condition will determine the residual value to a large extent. A mild depreciation however still represents a large chunk of money.

Value for Money

Costing in excess of two million ringgit, the 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is expensive even by Ferrari standards. But for the crazy amount of money, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano promises mind-blowing performance, reasonable comfort, Italian craftsmanship and an unique ownership experience that only Ferrari models offer. Even when in the company of key rivals like the Lamborghini Murcielago and Aston Martin DBS, the 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is proving the most desirable, to us at least.

Equipment

Like luxury cars, the 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano comes with creature comforts including leather upholstery, electrically adjustable seats, dual-zone climate control, bi-xenon headlamps, and high-end audio system. Plenty more are available on the option list as long as you are willing to pay. Safety equipments include airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners in addition to the host of electronic aids.

Environment

Emitting 490 grams/km of carbon dioxide, the 2012 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is even more polluting than the Ferrari 612 and F430. Fortunately for the environment and any “green” activists, there are not many 599s on the roads (due to the high price tag), and for the few on the roads, they do not drive long distances (due to huge running costs).

Live Life Drive Verdict
